2025 The 79th Annual Conference of the Korean Audiology Society

On May 10, 2025, the 79th Annual Conference of the Korean Audiology Society was held at the Catholic University’s Biomedical Industry Research Institute. The conference featured a variety of sessions addressing current topics in audiology and language rehabilitation.

Professor Jee Eun Sung delivered a presentation during the third session, which was composed of talks by principal investigators from institutions currently collaborating on a Global Convergence Research Project funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea. Her presentation, titled “Development of Sentence Stimuli for Language-Auditory Assessment and Rehabilitation”, highlighted ongoing work in the development of diagnostic materials tailored for populations with hearing loss.

With the growing aging population and increasing public concern about age-related hearing loss, there is rising awareness of its potential link to dementia as a predictive risk factor. In this context, Professor Sung emphasized the importance of evidence-based, systematic approaches for evaluating the language-cognitive abilities of older adults with hearing impairment. She further noted that the development and application of tailored sentence-level stimuli could enable more individualized and effective rehabilitation programs, ultimately contributing to improved cognitive and linguistic outcomes in this population.

2025년 5월 10일(토), 가톨릭대학교 의생명산업연구원에서 제79차 대한청각학회(The Korean Audiology Society) 학술대회가 개최되었습니다. 본 학회에서는 다양한 청각 및 언어 관련 주제들이 논의되었으며, 특히 세 번째 세션에서는 현재 한국연구재단 글로벌융합연구 지원사업을 함께 수행 중인 공동연구기관 책임자들의 발표가 진행되었습니다.

성지은 교수님께서는 본 세션에서 “언어청각 진단 및 재활을 위한 문장 자극 개발”이라는 주제로 발표를 하셨습니다. 고령 인구의 증가와 더불어 노인성 난청에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있는 가운데, 최근 난청이 치매의 주요 예측 요인 중 하나로 주목받으며 언어 및 청각 재활 분야의 중요성이 더욱 부각되고 있습니다.

교수님께서는 본 발표를 통해, 난청 노년층을 대상으로 한 문장 자극 개발의 필요성과 활용 가능성을 강조하셨으며, 해당 자극을 기반으로 언어-인지 능력을 체계적이고 근거 기반으로 평가하는 것이 향후 개별화된 재활 프로그램 개발로 이어질 수 있음을 제시하셨습니다. 이는 향후 노인성 난청 대상자의 삶의 질 향상 및 조기 개입을 위한 중요한 기반 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대됩니다.
